West Virginia ranks 48th in the nation with access to internet, leaving only 82% of West Virginians with internet in their homes. This makes finding a mental health provider, and engaging in telehealth sessions, nearly impossible in some parts of the state.
Through advocacy and partnership with agencies, Access 304 aims to bring care to more communities within the state so they can get the support they need.
Due to West Virginia's rural location, many clients are required to drive long distances in order to obtain their health care. The average adult in West Virginia reports feeling mentally unwell 31% more often than the average American. Further, data suggests that West Virginia's population is declining rapidly due to people leaving the state, as well as residents aging. Over 20% of the state is over the age of 65. The supply of mental health providers per 100,000 population in West Virginia is 45% lower than the national average. Without sufficient specialty providers to provide care, residents will go without.
Access 304 will train and recruit skilled professionals in order to resolve the need for residents to leave the state for treatment.
Your gift will fund our clinical efforts to provide direct therapy services to those seeking mental health treatment through individual, couples, or family therapy. Conducting research and training new clinicians with your gift enables us to contribute to the scholarly body of knowledge that exists in treating complicated mental health issues. Your gift will also decrease the stigma associated with mental health treatment by promoting emotional growth and introspection in our communities.
